31 May 2012

The government has proposed clamping down on anonymous ownership of companies through the controversial use of "bearer shares"; if signed into law, the draft proposal agreed by the cabinet yesterday would require the beneficial owners of firms to register them with the stock exchange or financial offices. According to a report by ČEKIA, as of the end of 2011, the true ownership of more than half of all joint stock companies in the country was masked through bearer stock.
