Prague promises to open an ice skating rink again at Letná park. City Hall announced on its website that it will enter into a contract with ICE-TEC Solution CZ for the project.

New Year's Day fireworks to be quieter

Prague's traditional firework's display will take place Jan. 1 at 6 pm from Letná, using standard fireworks but fewer large and high ones. The city discussed using silent fireworks but found the idea to be unfeasible. Noise from the fireworks disturbs not only pets but also wildlife such as swans.

Piaf!, The Show coming to Prague

Fans of French singer Edith Piaf can of course no longer see her in concert, but they can still experience some of the magic in a touring tribute show. Piaf!, The Show is coming to Prague's Hybernia Theatre (Divadlo Hybernia) on Dec. 6.

The Prague 7 district will have more trees. The city, district and the Technical Communications Administration (TSK) have agreed to plant 100 trees there. The first should be planted along the streets in the autumn months, the remaining ones will be planted in spring 2018.

Václav Havel Airport has new winter destinations

Václav Havel Airport Prague, as of Oct. 29 will have regular connections to 112 destinations, some eight more than at the same time last year. Compared to the previous year, the new winter schedule has 11 new destinations including Xi'an, China.

Rogue R2D2 appears in Prague

Famed Star Wars robot R2D2 has made a surprise appearance in a park in Prague. A so-far anonymous street artist, or likely a small group, converted one of two air vents for a Cold War-era nuclear fallout shelter into a large replica of the science fiction legend, looking as if he was half buried in the ground.

Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow coming to O2 Arena

Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow will be at Prague's O2 Arena on April 20, 2018, for their only show scheduled so far in central Europe. The tour is billed as Memories in Rock.

U Emy Destinové celebrates 10 years

The restaurant U Emy Destinnové will soon celebrate its 10th anniversary. The first meal was served Nov. 1, 2007. When chef Steven Trumpfheller came here a short time before opening the small eatery, he intended only to stay for a little while.
