President Miloš Zeman supported the second government of Prime Minister Andrej Babiš before the vote of confidence in the Chamber of Deputies on Wednesday. Zeman expressed the hope that the deputies would vote the confidence in the government.

Opposition warns of Babiš's cabinet, Communists hail it

The government of Andrej Babiš (ANO) supported by the Communists has opened the door to a semi-presidential system and "Babiš's democracy" in the Czech Republic, representatives of the centre-right opposition parties told reporters after the confidence vote on Wednesday. Part of the opposition is of the view that the Czech Republic existing since 1993 thereby ended.

The Czech lower house of parliament gave its backing early on Thursday for a new, center-left minority Cabinet led by billionaire Andrej Babiš, ending his nearly nine-month struggle to secure a parliamentary majority, an unofficial vote count showed.

Deals signed ahead of confidence vote in new government

Representatives of ANO and the Social Democrats have signed a coalition deal between the two parties, a day before their joint minority government undergoes the necessary vote of confidence in the lower house. Also on Tuesday ANO and the Communist Party put their signatures to a deal under which the latter have agreed to tolerate the new government.
