Former Czech detective to speak at crucial meeting of committee

The mandate and immunity committee of the Czech Chamber of Deputies has invited former detective Jiri Komarek for its Tuesday meeting, head of the TOP 09 and a member of the committee, Miroslav Kalousek, told journalists on Wednesday.

MPs postpone confidence vote for Babiš's minority gov't

The lower house on Wednesday postponed a confidence vote on PM Andrej Babis's minority gov't until Jan. 16 or later as lawmakers tussled over fraud allegations the billionaire politician is battling. The unexpected delay in the confidence vote puts pressure on a parliamentary committee to make a recommendation whether to lift Babiš's parliamentary immunity from prosecution before the chamber votes on confidence.

Zeman's presidential campaign cost CZK 17 million

President Miloš Zeman's election campaign has so far cost almost CZK 17 million, with most of the promotion having been paid by the extra-parliamentary Citizens Rights Party, the Miloš Zeman Friends Association and the Euro-Agency group, Zeman said on his election webpage.

Pirates: Babiš's gov't seems to give up anti-corruption steps

Pirates to vote against Babiš's government on Wednesday

The Czech Pirate Party will vote against confidence in Andrej Babiš's minority government in the Chamber of Deputies on Wednesday, its deputy group unanimously agreed on Tuesday and announced it on Twitter. The Babiš cabinet, comprised of his ANO ministers and unaffiliated experts, will almost certainly not gain confidence in the lower house since the other parties in parliament refused to support it as well.

Poll: Zeman may lose to Drahoš in second round

President Miloš Zeman would lose to former director of Academy of Science Jiří Drahoš if they advanced to the second round of the presidential election as he would obtain 44% of the vote, but Drahoš 48.5%, according to a poll released on Monday.

Babiš would prefer minority gov't in case of second vote
