Communist Party leader casts doubt on credibility of ANO party

Communist Party leader Vojtěch Filip has cast doubt on the credibility of the ANO party following its U-turn on the matter of the election of Zdeněk Ondráček head of the General Inspectorate of the Security Forces. Shortly after his election, ANO bowed to public and political pressure and withdrew its support for Ondráček, which resulted in his resignation.

PM considers Zeman's speech combative, right wing condemns it

Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis (ANO) expected the inauguration speech that President Milos Zeman made on Thursday to be less confrontational, the Czech right-wing opposition condemned it, and parliament deputy head Vojtech Filip (Communists, KSCM) considered the speech too personal.

TOP 09, STAN to cooperate in Prague election

TOP 09 and Mayors of Independents (STAN) on Wednesday signed a memorandum on cooperation and a joint list of candidates for the autumn local elections in Prague, their leaders announced. TOP 09 chairman Jiří Pospíšil said he would like to be the election leader, but this would depend on an agreement and rank-and-file. The parties will also negotiate with other entities.

Poll: Trust in Czech government rises in February

The trust in the Czech government headed by Prime Minister Andrej Babis (ANO) rose by 6 percent to 38 percent within a single month, according to a poll conducted by the CVVM agency in February and released on Wednesday.

Lower house not to vote about Okamura's dismissal

The Chamber of Deputies will not vote about the dismissal of Tomio Okamura, leader of the anti-EU Freedom and Direct Democracy (SPD), from post of its deputy chairman over Roma Holocaust denial as the lower house did not approve its planned programme on Wednesday.

Activists rejoice at Communist Ondráček giving up senior post

It really makes sense to protest against Communists' return to power and the public has defeated politicians, said organisers of a petition and rallies against Czech Communist MP Zdenek Ondracek as head of a parliamentary commission supervising the police inspection GIBS who was forced to resign on Tuesday.

ANO members for government cooperation with Communists, ČSSD

Communist-era cop quits Czech police oversight post after protests

A Czech Communist lawmaker resigned on Tuesday as chair of a parliamentary commission overseeing police internal affairs, after thousands protested the appointment because of his past in a communist-era special unit. Zdeněk Ondráček was narrowly elected by the lower house of parliament last Friday to head the commission - the first Communist lawmaker to hold such a post since the fall of communism nearly three decades ago.
